Varroa Mite Treatment-OAV

Varroa mite treatment using oxalic acid vapors (OAV) is very effective at controlling mite infestations.  BM Dooney Farms recommends that all beekeepers treat their beehives at least one time annually before winter or if mite infestation is detected.  Oxalic Acid is an organic compound found naturally in beehives.  When vaporized, oxalic acid crystals will coat the inside of the beehive and the bees.  The OAV treatment lasts about 5 minutes per beehive.  Then, over the next 24 hours from treatment, the mites inside the colony will begin to drop off of the bees and equipment due to their exposure to the oxalic acid crystals.  The bees are left unharmed and cleansed from mites.  Brood and queen survival is guaranteed!  To learn more about Varroa mites and how to control them, check out our blog Pest & Disease – Varroa Mite
