Hive Inspection Time!

It’s that time of the beekeeping season to make sure the hives have enough room to grow & produce honey!  After we split the WISER Center bee hives (making nucs) in late April, we reduced the population substantially.  We then expanded the hives in early June to make room for the colonies to grow & reduced the likelihood of swarming. The colonies were not all ready for another box at that time & a week later some began bearding outside. Thanks to the WISER Center Interns Nicco & Garrett, the colonies bearding were given another box to expand into.

Today we will be checking on the colonies to see how they are expanding & to add honey supers.

All are welcome to come & observe the activities. It should be interesting & take 1-2hrs.
